This is my third draft of my double page spread, from the second draft I outlined the pug in the top corner so it stood out more, and removed the background from the 'Hayley Pyatt' text as I thought it look too much. I also noticed an error in 'What not to do in 2010...' should have been 'What not to do in 2011...' so I changed this. However I still don't think my double page spread looks professional and to a high quality, I will next evaluate it and then make more possible changes to improve on it.

Double Page Spread Draft 2
This is my second draft of my double page spread, from the first draft I've added more text to the page, made the background gradient and also added a pug in the corner, I did this so that it would look like more of a conventional magazine page, however I still don't think the double page looks professional, I will get feedback and change and edit more elements of my double page spread in order to create a third draft.
Double Page Spread Draft 1
This is the first draft of my double page spread. This is a very basic double page, I will improve on this by adding more to the page as at the moment it looks very plain and unprofessional.

Contents Page Draft 3
This is my third draft of my contents page, from the second draft I changed my 'welcome' message so it was all in line with the image of the cover, so it follows conventions. I also added a dark grey background to this section so it frames it more, and sections it from the main contents. It also follows the layout I chose in my reasearch. Further improvement to this may include adding more pages and framing it around the model as currently 35 pages may not be enough for a magazine.

Contents page Draft 2
This is my second draft for my contents page. From the first draft I changed the shape of the writing and shaped it around the models legs so it doesn't cover so much of the image. I also blurred the edges of the image as they looked to sharp on the first copy. I have continued the house style in the sense of font and colour schemes. I will now get feedback to create the final draft of my contents page.

Contents page Draft 1
This is the first draft of my contents page, I will get feedback and improve on it to make further drafts.
Contents page
Today I have begun to draft my contents page, this will have continuity from the cover, for example have the same colour scheme, images style etc. I will do a number a drafts before creating my final copy.

Front Cover Mock up 5
This is my fifth and possibly final draft of my front cover. The feedback that I got was that they liked how the pink text is the same colour as her lips so I kept this the same, however they said to add a pug and move the quote so it doesn't cover as much of the models face. This will be the bases of my final draft, all other changes that will be made should only be minor changes.

Front Cover Mock up 4
The feedback that I got from my third mock up was that it was that they preferred the quote and the 'whats inside section' where they were previously, as draft 3 looked far too unprofessional and not as eye catching, so i reverted back to how it was in that sense. I changed the font of the quote and the splash so that they would catch the readers eye and that they wouldn't be so plain to look at.
Price
After doing my first draft I realised there was no price on the front cover, so I researched the prices of other magazines in my genre/with the same target market. The prices ranged from £3.00 to £5.00, also many glossy magazine are priced around £3.90-£3.99. I will price my magazine at £3.90 as this is affordable and set at a competitive price, so its not overly expensive or cheap compared to other magazines in the market.
Front Cover Mock up 3
This is the third draft of my front cover, I removed the feature in the top left so that I could include the quote so that it wasn't on the face in the image. I also changed the fonts so that they are more able to read. I will get feedback on this cover so that I will know whether my audience like it cover more plain or not.

Cover/contents/double page spread images
These are a selection of possible images I took that I will be able to use on my front cover/contents page/double page spread. I decided to take the images at various angles, covering different poses, also with different outfits/hair styles to give it more variation. When using the images I will cut out the background on fireworks as the majority of them are irrelevant and are just of the setting, this will just leave the model in focus.
Mock Ups
This lesson I have begun to design my first draft for my front cover on Fireworks. I used my chosen colour sheme and layout to begin drafting it out, however minor changes have been made. After I've finished my first mock ups, I will get feedback and edit it to improve them.

Layout designs: Front Cover
Layout 1: This layout focuses mainly on the image on the cover. This could be an advantage as this may be what attracts the reader to the to the cover however with not much information on the cover it may look to plain and simple, also people may want to know whats inside. For these reasons I chose not to use this layout.
Layout 2: This is similar to layout in the sense that I've kept the the image the main focus of the cover, however I moved the bar code and pug around to fit more with conventions, also to experiment to see which looks best. I again feel this layout would be too simple and wouldn't attract the eye of the audience.
Layout 3: I think this is the best layout out of the 3, this is because the bar code/date/issue number are in a place where it fits with conventions also the two tone colour scheme will make the cover look more interesting and will also frame the image, however it may look better if the colours were blended rather than block colours.

Color Schemes
I used the website www.colorschemedesigner.com to generate a number of different colour schemes. I chose to stick with a blue/purple theme as it will appeal to both males and females. I also chose to keep the colours quite dark, as bright colours wouldn't fit in with the genre. I have chose to use the the second colour scheme as the colours are more bright than the other two, and I think the compliment each other well and will make my magazine stand out.

Masthead Font Ideas
After choosing my magazine name, I downloaded several different fonts that I thought would fit in with the genre of my magazine.
The first font reminds me of music speakers, this font would be good for my magazine, as it relates to the genre in the sense of loud music. The font is quite individual which also relates to the style of the magazine. However my I asked my target market for feedback, they felt it wasn't as suitable font for a masthead as it was too decorative.
The second font also reflects my genre as the letters are quite disjointed and edgy. I think this would be a good font to use for my masthead as the lettering is clear and easy to read, as well as fitting in with the genre. My target market also chose this font as their overall favorite as they said it was the one that fit the genre most, and the one that would be most appealing on the front cover of a magazine.
The third font is very bold and strong, personally I feel this font would fit an R'n'B or Hip Hop magazine better than it would an indie magazine as they are quite strong genres. I also think the font is quite plain and simple and may not catch the readers eye when presented in a shop with a number of other magazines. My target market agreed with this, as they chose this as one of their least favorite fonts out of them all.
The fourth font is similar to the second in the sense of the letters are disjointed and for the genre, however with the decorative style added to it, the font could be difficult to read and therefore unsuitable for a masthead. This was was target markets second favorite font as its quite edgy and unique, because of this, I could use this font else where in my magazine as my target audience like it, but not as a masthead font.
I think the fifth font would be unsuitable for my magazine as it doesn't relate to my genre, I think this would be more suitable for a pop magazine as it reminds me of disco music. The font is also quite difficult to read, so would also be unsuitable for a masthead font. This was also my target markets least favorite font.
The final font is easy to read, yet still has an element of decoration, however I don't think I suits my genre better than font 2/4. I think this font would be better suited to and pop/dance magazine, it was also the second least favorite with my target audience, so becuase of this I wouldn't use it.
After evaluating each font, and asking my target market for feedback, I have decided to use the font 'Birth of a hero' as my main font for my masthead.

Music magazine name ideas
After choosing my genre as indie/rock, I came up with a number of possible names for my music magazine that would fit this genre. I then asked a number of my target market which was their favorite, I did this so it will appeal to the majority of my target audience and its not just one one persons opinion. The results are as follows;
Volume- 2
Starlight - 1
Starlight - 1
Indie-pendant - 5
Revolution -4
New Generation - 1
Acapella -2
Underground -4
Dazed - 8
Unsigned - 7

Image Shot Analysis.
On this post I have analysed different shot types, to give the advantages and disadvantages of them. This will then help me decide the type of shot I can use for my cover image on my final magazine cover.
This is a medium long shot that could be used on the front of a magazine. It shows the majority of her body, with not as much detail as if it was a close up. Because she is smiling this would give a positive vibe to the reader, also she is making eye contact with the camera, this is then giving direct contact with the reader. To improve the image it could be a medium close up, instead of a medium long shot then you could see more detail in her face and expression.
This is an over the shoulder, medium close up shot. An over the shoulder shot shows the image from the persons perspective. The background of the image is blurred, and focuses on the artist making her the main focus of the page and the first and only thing the reader looks at, the image also portrays a positive atmosphere by her facial expression. However she is not making eye contact and you can not see her full face this could be seen as a negative, but on the other hand it could show her confidence by not needing a close up of her for people to recognise who she is.
This is a close up shot, meaning that it doesn't show anything lower than the neck, it shows more detail and expression in her face than if it was a long shot. The image give a positive vibe as there's a lot of light on the image and she looks happy to be there, because of this, this image would make a good cover shot. To improve to image she could make eye contact, this would make the reader feel more connected.
